Tim Lane - Lead Guitar & Vocals

In his own words...

"I was born in a crossfire hurricane, or at least that’s what I like to tell people. The truth is, it was more a light shower on a moderately blustery day. I took up guitar at the age of sixteen in the vain hope that it would help me get laid more often. The disappointment ended some months later with the realisation that there would be no major increase in rumpy-pumpy, but that I did enjoy playing the old six-string. It was the start of a musical journey which has led me to my current position as guitarist in The Rum Brothers.

On this journey I have played and sung in a number of bands, performing all styles of popular music including funk, progressive rock, goth-rock, heavy metal and folk. None of these bands have ever troubled the compilers of the national charts or sex-starved groupies, but I have had some small success on a local scale with bands like Doomweasel, a comedy rock outfit that played the pubs of Norfolk in the ‘90s. The crowning glory of this part of my career was that I never left a venue without offending someone with my sick, humorous ditties. Since attending the Feathers Folk club in Wymondham in the ‘80s I have loved folk and country music and this led me, after some years playing in ceilidh bands, to the point where I had little choice but to become a Rum Brother. The rest as they say is, ...er, current affairs.

I like eating meat, consuming alcohol and lolling around. I hate hard work, commitment, green vegetables and not being the centre of attention. I am influenced by Queen, Gram Parsons, The Wombles, Yes, The Clash and Muddy Waters and my favourite album is A Night At The Opera by Queen... or is it Dark Side Of The Moon? I can’t decide! My heroes are Johnny Cash, Brian May, Ray Winston and Tom Waits. When I’m not playing music I can usually be found lying down somewhere, avoiding any physical effort that might require my attention.
